Medical Herbalist Kerry Hackett, MSc, MNIMH, AHG
In today’s world, we take for granted that preventative care and lifestyle management profoundly impact our general health. However, this concept has its roots in ancient history. Beginning in early Greece, several simple guidelines were developed to prevent disease; these were based on one’s individual constitution as well as a mindful relationship with the natural rhythms of the earth.
In this presentation, we will explore the ways in which preventative health was understood from ancient times up until the mid-nineteenth century; factors both external, as well as internal, will be considered. These include general environment, diet, exercise, sleep, body function and emotional balance. Furthermore, we will investigate how these factors may be set to suit each person's basic constitutional type. This presentation will show that historical knowledge, used mindfully, can offer a powerful contribution to the maintenance of sustainable health today.
